EU Related Referendums

A binding referendum on Hungary's entry to the EU took place on 12 April 2003. 45.6 percent of eligible voters participated and 83.6 per cent of them voted 'Yes'. Although participation was below 50 percent, the referendum was valid because the referendum regulation declares a referendum valid if 25 per cent plus one among the eligible voters decide in the same way. The participation rate was the lowest among the accession countries.
